Why should you give books to Public School Teachers like me?! Lend or Donate a book for our next D.E.A.R. session!

D.E.A.R. or Drop Everything and Read is a time wherein teachers and pupils set aside other activities and just read. The goal of the D.E.A.R. program is to encourage silent reading wherein students have the freedom to choose the books they will read based on their ability and interest. It is not to sacrifice otherContinue reading “Why should you give books to Public School Teachers like me?! Lend or Donate a book for our next D.E.A.R. session!”

Lesson Ideas to teach Compound Words

(Updated August 5, 2018) Last week, my lesson in English is on Compound Words. Over the weekend, I was thinking of an activity which I can do in class to review the lesson on Monday. I found this free downloadable set of word cards from Teachers Pay Teachers and an idea came up! So, I downloaded andContinue reading “Lesson Ideas to teach Compound Words”

Lesson Idea: Play the Hangman Game to teach New Vocabulary Words

Over the weekend, I was thinking of another strategy to use in teaching new vocabulary words to my pupils… something that is interesting and fun! Then, I remember when I was still in Elementary, my English teacher used the classic “Hangman” game to teach us new words. So, I decided to try it too. Tower Building: Simple Engineering Challenge for Pupils and Incorporation to English Lesson

Last week, I was transferred to the Grade 4 Level and I was really excited to try new things with them. As you all know, if you are a regular here, one of my advocacies is technology. Why do you need to have a DepEd email?

In 2012, the Department of Education rolled out its DepEd email system. This allows workers, including teachers, in the Department to create a professional email account in this format [firstname.lastname@deped.gov.ph]. For example, my DepEd mail is roxanne.fuentes@deped.gov.ph. This is very nice, especially when communicating online because you will directly be identified as a DepEd employee.Continue reading “Why do you need to have a DepEd email?”

Women are techmakers. How can you become one?

This is a long overdue post. I’m still writing this though because people must know that women in the tech industry are growing and that they are empowered to make a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). I recently attended my second WomenTechmakers Event. My first one was way back 2015 and I’mContinue reading “Women are techmakers. How can you become one?”
